A wooden block measuring 40 cm x 10 cm x 5 cm has a mass of 850 g. Find the density of the wood. Ans. (425 kg m⁻³)

Given:

Volume of the wooden block (from the measurement) = V =  40 cm x 10 cm x 5 cm = 2000 cm³ = 2 x1o³ cm³ = 2 x1o³ x1o⁻⁶ m³ = 2 x1o⁻³ m³ ( 1 cm³ = 1o⁻⁶ m³)

Mass of the wooden block = m = 850 g = 0.85 kg

To Find:

The density of the wood = 𝜌 =

Solution:

As Density is defined as mass per unit volume. So,

Density`\frac {Mass}{Volume}`

𝜌 `\frac {m}{V}`

 by putting values

𝜌 = `\frac {0.85 kg}{2 x1o⁻³ m³}`

𝜌 = 0.425 x1o³ kg m³

𝜌 = 425 x1o³x1o³ kg m³

𝜌 = 425 x1o³⁺³ kg m³

𝜌 = 425 x1o⁰ kg m³

or

𝜌 = 425 kg m³

Thus, the density (𝜌of the wood of the block is 425 kg m³
