How much centripetal force is needed to make a body of mass 0.5 kg to move in a circle of radius 50cm with a speed 3 ms⁻¹ ? Ans. (9 N)
Given:
Mass of the block = m = 0.5 kg
Radius of the circle = r = 50 cm = 0.5 m
Speed of the body = v = 3 m s⁻¹
To Find:
Centripetal Force = `\F_c` = ?
Solution:
As we know that the formula for static friction is
`\F_c` = `\frac {mv^2}{r}`
putting values
`\F_c` = `\frac {0.5 kg (3 m s⁻¹)^2}{0.5 m}`
by simplifying we get
Fc = 9 N
