On closing the jaws of a Vernier Caliper, zero of the Vernier scale is on the right to its main scale such that the 4th division of its Vernier scale coincides with one of the main scale divisions. Find its zero error and zero correction. Ans. (+0.04 cm, -0.04 cm)

Given:

Number of division of the Vernier scale concedes with one of the main scales = 4

Least Count = 0.01 cm

To find:

(a) Zero error = ?

(b) Zero correction = ?

Solution:

(a)

Zero error = Least count ï½˜ Numbers of the division of Vernier scale

Zero error = 0.01 cm  ï½˜ 4

Zero error = 0.04 cm

(b)
As given that the zero of the Vernier scale is at the right side of the zero of the main scale Zero correction is positive and will be subtracted from the final calculation. So,

Zero Correction = - 0.04 cm
