Ans.   (a) 6.4 ｘ 10³ km         (b) 3.8 ｘ 10⁵ km 
        (c) 3ｘ 10⁸ m s⁻¹           (d) 8.64 ｘ 10⁴ s


Solution: 


(a) 6400 km  

= 6.4ｘ1000 km

= 6.4 ｘ 10⁵ km



(b) 380,000 km

= 3.8 ｘ 10,000 km

= 3.8 ｘ 10³ km



(c) 300,000,000 m s⁻¹ 

= 3.0 ｘ 100,000,000 m s⁻¹

= 3.8 ｘ 10⁸ m s⁻¹



(d) Seconds in a day   

As 

1 day = 24 hours

1 hour = 60 minutes

1 minute = 60 seconds

So, 

1 day = 24 ｘ 60 ｘ 60 s

1 day = 86400 s

1 day = 8.64 ｘ 10,000  s

1 day = 8.64 ｘ 10⁴  s
