A football leaves the foot of a punter at an angle of 54° positive direction at a speed of 21 m/s. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity. (Ans. 12m/s and 17m/s)
Given:
Speed of the ball = V = 21 m/s
Angle θ with positive direction (X-axis) = 54°
To Find:
The horizontal component of velocity = vx = ?The horizontal component of velocity = vy = ?
Solution:
We know that
The horizontal component of velocity = vx = v cos θ
So, putting vales
vx = 21 m/s cos 54° = 21 m/s x 0.588 = 12.34 m/s
vx = 12 m/s -------------Ans 1
Similarly, the Vertical component of velocity = vy = v sin θ
So, putting vales
vy = 21 m/s sin 54° = 21 m/s x 0.809 = 16.99 m/s
vy = 17 m/s --------------Ans 2
