The engine of a JF-Thunder fighter (made by Pakistan and China) develops a thrust of 3000 N. What horsepower does it have at a velocity of 600 m s⁻¹? (2413 hp)

Given:

Force of the thrust of JF-Thunder engine = F = 3000 N
Velocity of the engine  = v = 600 m s⁻¹

To Find:

Power of JF-Thunder engine P = ? (in horsepower)

Solution:

Power is defined as the rate with respect to the time at which work is done. The mathematical formula of power is given by:

P = `\ frac{W}{t}`

P = `\ frac{Fd}{t}`            [W = Fd]

P =  F `\ frac{d}{t}`

P =  F v           [`\ frac{d}{t}` = v]

by putting values

P =  3000 N x 600 m s⁻¹

P =  1,800,000 N m s⁻¹

P =  1,800,000 W

In Horse Power Unit:

We know that

1 horse power = 746 watts

or

1 W = `\ frac{1}{746}`  hp

then

P =  1,800,000 W = `\ frac{1}{746}` x 1,800,000  hp

P =  2412.869 hp

P = 2413 hp ---------------Ans.
