A 10-watt resister has a value of 120 Ω. What is the rated current through the resister? Answer (0.2886 A)

Given:

Power of resister =  P = 10 w

Resistance of resister  = R = 120 Ω

Time = t = 5 min = 300 s

To Find:

Current through the resister = I = ?

Solution:

We know that

P = R

or

I² = `\frac {P}{R}`

or

= `\sqrt frac {P}{R}`

by putting values

= `\sqrt frac {10 w}{120 Ω}`

= `\sqrt frac {10 W}{120 Ω}`   [ ∴ w = A²Ω]

= `\sqrt {0.0833 A²}`

= 0.2886 A  -------------------Ans.
