A person on the seashore observes that 48 waves reach the shore in one minute. If the wavelength of the waves is 10 m, then find the velocity of the waves. (8 m s⁻¹)
Given:
Number of waves reached = N = 48 Waves
Time taken = t = 1 min = 60 s, So
Frequency of waves = f = `\frac{N}{t}` = `\frac{48}{60 s}` = 0.8 Hz
Wavelength of wave = λ = 10 m
To Find:
The velocity of wave = v = ?
Solution:
The general relation among wavelength (λ), speed (v), and frequency (f) is following:
v = f λ
putting values
v = 0.8 Hz x 10 m
v = 8 m Hz
As [ Hz = s⁻¹]
v = 8 m s⁻¹ -------------Ans.
