Past tense -- فعل ماضی  


i)       Past Indefinite tense / Simple Past tense.

ii)      Past continuous tense

iii)     Past perfect tense

iv)     Past Perfect Continuous tense



i)       Past Indefinite tense / Simple Past tense.

A work or any action that was done in the past

⇒[Second form verb is use in sentence of indefinite tense]

⇒[We use did in the negative or interrogative sentence of past indefinite tense with change of second form to first form]


He wrote (2nd form) a letter.

He did not write (1st form) a letter. (negative)

Did he write (1st form) a letter? (question)


They went (2nd form) to Bazar. 

They did not go (1st form) to Bazar. (negative)

Did they go (1st form) to Bazar? (question)


It rained yesterday.

It did not rain (1st form) yesterday. (negative)

Did It rain (1st form) yesterday(question)



ii)      Past continuous tense

A work or any action that was happening in the past.

⇒[We use helping verb was or were and 1st form of verb + ing]

It was raining. 

was sleeping last night.

The sun was rising.

They were singing.
