Show that the expression of vf =vi +at is dimensionally correct, where vi is the velocity at t = 0 , a is acceleration and vf is the velocity at time t.
Given:
vf = vi + at
where
where
t = time
vi = initial velocity at t =0
a = acceleration
vf = final velocity at time t
To Find:
To prove that the equation vf = vi + at is dimensionally correct
Solution:
As given
vf = vi + at
Dimensions of L.H.S. of the equation = [vf] = [LT⁻¹]
Dimensions of R.H.S. of the equation = [vi] + [a][t]
= [LT⁻¹] + [LT⁻²][T]
= [LT⁻¹] + [LT⁻¹]
= [LT⁻¹]
L.H.S = R.H.S
Hence proved that the equation vf = vi + at is dimensionally correct.
