The radius of a rod is 0.24 cm. Find its cross-sectional area with appropriate significant figures. Ans. (0.18 cm²)
Given:
Radius of the rod = r = 0.24 cm
To Find:
The cross-sectional area of the rod = a = ?
Solution:
The cross-sectional area of the rod is given by a formula
a = ㄫ r ²
by putting the values
a = 3.1416 x 0.0576 cm²
a = 0.18095616
a = 0.18 cm² ------------------Ans.
According to the rules of significant figures, the answer should be rounded off to 2 decimal places as the given value of radius is 2 DP.
