Q. Differentiate between mechanical stopwatches and digital stopwatches.
Answer:
MECHANICAL/ANALOGUE STOPWATCH:
A mechanical stopwatch can measure a time interval of up to 0.1 seconds. It has a knob that is used to wind the spring that powers the watch. It can also be used as a start stop and reset button.
It has two circular dials, a large circular dial in which the second hand of the watch rotates, and a small circular dial in which the minute hand of the watch rotates as shown in the figure. The watch starts and stops by pressing the knob at top of it, pressing it for some time will reset the watch back to zero.
DIGITAL STOPWATCH:
A digital stopwatch can measure a time interval of up to 0.01 seconds. The digital stopwatch is usually controlled by two buttons on the case as shown in the figure. It starts to indicate the time lapsed as the start/stop button is pressed. As soon as the start/stop button is pressed again, it stops and indicates the time interval recorded by it between the start and stop of an event. A reset button restores its initial zero setting. Nowadays almost all mobile phones have a stopwatch function.
