For an irregular solid its volume is calculated by lowering the object in a partially filled measuring cylinder as shown in the figure. The rise in the level on the volume scale gives the volume of that object. Thus the volume of the irregular solid is calculated by subtracting the original volume of liquid from the raised volume of liquid.
